Spring Fashion Trends 2013

Spring Fashion Trends 2013
Color, color and more color. That’s the spring fashion trend for women this year.
“I think the big story for spring is color,” said Marie Frederick, owner of Unique Boutique and Goodnature’s Work Stop, both in Clear Lake, and The Goodnature Store and State of Wear, both in Garner.
“Last year it might have been the young people and fashionistas, but now it’s mainstream,” Frederick said.
She said colors include neons, pastels such as mint, pink, lavender and yellow; and other colors such as jades, royals and red.
Cindy Wilert, a supervisor at J.C. Penney, Mason City, noted similar colors, too, including pastels, orange, spearmint, teals and blues.
“It is huge,” she said. “Pops of color are very, very important.”
Color is popping up everywhere, too, including pants, shirts, purses and jewelry, Frederick said.
“One of the fashion trends is color blocking,” she said. “It might involve wearing a royal blue bottom and bright orange top and carrying a yellow purse. You mix the bright colors.”
Frederick said women definitely don’t want everything matchy matchy.
Wilert agreed and said layering different bright colors is popular.
“It seems like boyfriend style shirts that are bigger, are being layered with vivid colors,” she said.
Spring sweaters are also popular for layering, Frederick said.
“They’re very opened weaves,” she said. “You very much have to have a shirt underneath. You put another color and bright color underneath.”
In addition to bright colors, prints are popular in pants.
Wilert has noticed florals, while Frederick said animal prints and lace are popular in pants, too.
Reversible jeans are another up-and-coming trend, Frederick said. One side could be pink, while the other purple. She doesn’t carry them in any of her stores yet, but expects to.
As far as the jean cut, skinny jeans are still popular, but straight-legged jeans are again gaining popularity. Frederick said straight-legged jeans are a good option for people who aren’t comfortable with skinny jeans.
Boots, especially booties, and strappy sandals are on trend for wearing with skinny jeans, Frederick said.
Other spring fashion trends include military studs and metals, chevrons and stripes, spring scarves, big rings and earrings, stacking bracelets and sparkle, said the two women.
“My tip would be to try it and to just do it,” Frederick said. “There are so many people scared of wearing a bright colored bottom. Just do it. You’ll enjoy it and be so happy that you’ll do it again.
“The stores will help you put together a smashing outfit no matter where you shop.”
